Comprehensive motor insurance without the small print

Casco policies look alike until you compare the deductible, the depreciation applied to parts and the list of exclusions. We compare all of that for you, across every insurer at once, and tell you where the difference really matters.

What the policy covers

  • A road accident, no matter who is at fault
  • Theft of the vehicle and of parts, and theft by breaking in
  • Fire, explosion and lightning strike
  • Hail, storm, flood and objects falling onto the vehicle
  • Deliberate damage caused by a third party (vandalism)
  • Breakage of glass, headlights and mirrors, usually available as a separate package as well
  • Additional risks: a replacement vehicle, towing service, travel insurance alongside the policy

What is usually not covered

  • Damage caused while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Driving without a valid driving licence
  • Damage caused deliberately, and fraud
  • Wear, corrosion and breakdown from old age, because that is not an accident
  • Damage to a vehicle used for racing or competitions
  • With some insurers: damage deep off road or away from public roads

Exclusions differ from one insurer to another, and checking them is part of our work before we recommend a policy to you.

When the policy pays out

01

Hail in the car park

A summer storm damages the bonnet and the roof of a parked car. Casco cover that includes natural disasters pays for the panel beating and respraying; without that cover the loss is yours, because motor third party liability covers only the damage you cause to somebody else.

02

You are the one at fault in a crash

You lose control and hit a crash barrier. Motor third party liability is no help here, because it covers only damage to third parties. Casco pays for the repair of your own vehicle, less the agreed deductible.

03

A car stolen outside the building

The vehicle disappears overnight. With full casco cover you are paid the market value of the vehicle at the time of the loss, not the price you paid when you bought it. That is why it matters how value is defined in the policy, and it is an item we always check.

The examples are illustrative and show how the cover works in practice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does comprehensive motor insurance cost?

The premium depends on the value and age of the vehicle, the age and record of the driver, the deductible you choose and the scope of cover. There is no single price: the same vehicle can carry a very different premium from one insurer to another. We collect offers from everyone who covers your profile and compare them.

What is the difference between casco and motor third party liability?

Motor third party liability is required by law and covers the damage you cause to somebody else. Casco is voluntary and covers damage to your own vehicle, including situations where you are at fault yourself or where there is nobody to blame.

What is a deductible and is a higher one worth it?

The deductible is the part of the loss you carry yourself. A higher deductible means a lower premium, but a bigger bill when something happens. For cars driven every day in the city a lower deductible usually pays off, and for cars that are rarely driven a higher one does. We work the numbers out together with you.

Can I insure an older vehicle?

You can, but insurers do not all set the same age limit, and some offer only partial casco cover for older vehicles. This is exactly where offers differ the most, so comparing them is the most useful here.

What should I do when a loss happens?

Get in touch with us. We report the claim to the insurer, prepare the documentation, follow the assessment and stay in touch until the payout. When there is a claim we represent you, not the insurer.
